Scott Sheely - Manufacturing Skills Factory Gains Nearly 100% Placement And Retention Rate

The Lancaster WIB has worked with employers to enhance the training it was providing for the manufacturing industry so that now the Manufacturing Skills Factory has an almost 100% placement and retention rate of those that complete the training program. A few factors to this success are: 1) Tie the training to things your organization already does well and extend it to new areas, 2) Apply a new way of thinking about training--employers are looking for skills not necessarily academic credentials and employers require workers with experience before they commit to hiring them; 3) training should include exposure to the business culture and real work experience, and 4) long-term and strong business relationships.
