The Society of Manufacturing Engineers, a premier source for manufacturing knowledge, education and networking, has issued a cutting edge white paper, “Workforce Imperative:  A Manufacturing Education Strategy” containing a national action plan to address job skills gaps in the manufacturing sector.  The paper identifies the Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration’s Advanced Manufacturing Competency Model as one of four key pillars of manufacturing knowledge, standing side by side with workforce development, manufacturing education, and industry-recognized credentials.

This culmination of two years of research, involving hundreds of stakeholders from industry, government and education, reinforces the value of the model to our industry and education partners as a tool to prepare the current and future workers for the real life skills needs of the manufacturing sector.
